We are at NASA Headquarters in Florida 🚀 The Robotics Competition has officially begun! For the next three days, our students, working in collaborative teams, will tackle a simulated Mars mission using a case-method approach. To successfully complete the mission, they must bring every skill to the table: critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, teamwork, robotics expertise, and strong communication in English. This academic journey clearly reflects the graduate profile of the Semper Altius network of schools. Guided by astronauts in training, our students are experiencing firsthand what astronauts do in their daily life in space. 🌌 We couldn’t be prouder as they begin this incredible adventure. The future is in motion- and it’s aiming for Mars. 🔴✨ #cumbresHigher #NASA #BeCumbres

No repair shop on the Moon or Mars! Space robotics startup GITAI is tackling the challenge of maintenance in extreme, remote environments head on. The video captures their R1-class lunar rover autonomously performing a critical function demonstration: changing its own tire without any human intervention. This ability is vital because a simple mechanical failure in space could jeopardize an entire mission. By developing robots capable of self maintenance, such as swapping out tools or wheels, GITAI aims to provide safe and affordable labor for building and sustaining off world infrastructure. This desert test simulates the harsh lunar surface conditions, proving the technology’s readiness for upcoming demonstrations in collaboration with agencies like NASA and JAXA, ultimately making space development accessible and reducing reliance on costly human crews. Introducing 2025 Astronaut Scholar Emily Mikhail from North Dakota State University! Emily is majoring in both Mechanical Engineering and Physics with a minor in Mathematics. She has been highly involved and is now a lead on an undergraduate research team working with a hybrid rocket motor. 🚀 Emily has always been a lover of puzzles and animals. She worked at a dog shelter in high school, and loved getting to care for dogs who needed love the most. She also really enjoys board games, puzzles, and reading. 📖 — #astronautscholars #stemeducation #northdakota #mechanicalengineers #physicsstudent

If Discovery Cube went to the Moon, this is who we would send! 🚀🌕 Inspired by NASA’s #NASAMoonCrew campaign and the Artemis II mission, where teamwork and trust matter just as much as rocket science. Meet our Moon Crew, launching aboard the DCV Inspire. Who’s driving, who’s bringing the snacks, and who’s making the playlist? 👨‍🚀 #NASAMoonCrew #ArtemisII #STEMEducation #DiscoveryCube @NASA

🥁Get ready to go around the Moon 🌕🚀 In this reel, our American Spaces volunteer Cristian breaks down what makes Artemis II such a historic moment—NASA’s first crewed mission around the Moon in over 50 years. 💡From the powerful SLS rocket to the daring lunar flyby and record-breaking distances, this mission is a huge step toward humanity’s return to deep space. Hit play and let the countdown begin! #AHChisinau #AmericanSpacesVolunteers

At NASA’s Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, engineers intentionally dropped a 14,000-pound Orion test capsule into the Hydro Impact Basin — a massive indoor pool built to simulate ocean splashdowns. The dramatic swing test recreates the forces astronauts will feel when returning from deep space at nearly 25,000 miles per hour before parachutes slow the capsule for landing. By varying the drop angle and speed, engineers measure impact loads, structural stress, and capsule stability in the water. Even small differences in entry angle can significantly change the forces transmitted to the crew seats. High-speed cameras and onboard sensors capture thousands of data points in milliseconds. These tests are critical for Artemis missions that will carry astronauts around the Moon and beyond. Because coming home safely is just as important as launching. If we plan to send humans deeper into space, how much margin is enough when designing for reentry? #NASA #Orion #Artemis #SpaceEngineering #LangleyResearchCenter #HumanSpaceflight #Splashdown #AerospaceTesting
