During the Makeathon, I wanted to try something 3D... and thought about creating a fully interactive 3D globe on the web. I started by researching how to make it possible, and stumbled upon something called WebGL. That was the entry point. Then I handed the challenge over to Figma Make, and after a series of prompts (and plenty of fixing errors along the way 😅), the idea slowly came to life. The result? globe.figma.site — a dark-themed 3D globe where you can upload your own textures, play with lights, adjust rotation, and even export it as a PNG or looping video. Excited to share our interactive 3D solar system built for the Figma Makeathon. This project transforms gravity into an interface — allowing users to orbit planets, explore gravitational fields, and even launch a probe to test escape velocity in real time. It was a great collaboration with M jawad, where we pushed beyond traditional UI design and explored physics-driven interaction inside Figma Make. Sometimes a failed project just needs the right moment… and the right tool. Two years ago, I tried to code a color palette generator from scratch with ChatGPT.
I had a big vision but it soon turned out to be too complex and I couldn’t build it. The tool was very limited and didn’t work as expected. I played with it for a bit, fascinated that I could use AI for my little exploration project but dropped it after two days. This year I tried building it with @figma Make, and it finally works exactly how I imagined — smooth, visual, and actually fun to use.
