PUMares are often called “difficult,” but really… they’re just more expressive. They won’t hide their feelings. They’ll tell you when something isn’t fair, when they’re unsure, when your energy is off. And that honesty can feel confronting, which is why people struggle to bond with them.
But when you take the time to listen, to build mutual trust and understanding (not just “respect”), something shifts. They don’t just work for you, they partner with you. They choose you.
I actually fell in love with mares while training horses for other people. I started to notice how they connect differently than geldings. Their loyalty runs deep, and their work attitude is something I truly admire. I’ll admit it… for my own horses, I tend to favor mares.
