AUSo you don’t have a reel. Do you pay for someone to create one for you with fake scenes? Or do you use self tapes?
Actors - let’s talk about demo reels
THIS IS MY OPINION (and I’ve spoken to a LOT of people to get more opinions here)
1) filmed reels or fake reels are expensive and don’t fool anyone
2) your footage from your current student films etc may not be amazing. If it’s not don’t use it
3) when using self tapes keep this in mind - don’t use anything popular, no plays, nothing that hasn’t aired and don’t lean into the screaming crying drama just because it feels good

JUVerticals: I've been asked to weigh in on the vertical microdramas, so let's talk about it....
I think they are amazing, especially for new actors who are trying to get on set experience and work in a quick, fast pace environment. There's no better way to learn than actually doing. If verticals were a thing back when I was starting out or before I joined the union, I would absolutely be doing them instead of slinging coffee. Some of these vertical companies pay $700 a day, getting to do what you love? Sounds like a no-brainer to me. With that, I have heard that some companies are not great to work for and the on set experience is a bit toxic, that's not ok...so make sure you do your research and talk to friends who have done verticals to find out which ones are legit and which ones to stay away from.
Also, I'm not an acting coach, but even if the dialogue or the scripts aren't the best, bring YOUR best to every single project. Make it authentic make it truthful and make it good content we all want to sit and watch. BE A GREAT ACTOR and you will get noticed.
