The microexpression of anger involves a lot of inward/downward pinching. When you hold tension here - even subtly - others pick up on it. It becomes one of the many factors in how a social interaction unfolds - be it between strangers, acquaintances, or loved ones. Studies (Anderson et al., 2012; Sagliano et al., 2020) have suggested that a person’s judgements about a social context can be influenced by facial expressions - even when those facial expressions are not consciously perceived by the viewer. When I resolved my own facial tension, I didn’t have 11 lines or stark expression lines. I just had a facial posture that said “I’m frustrated, I’m intense, and I’m not so open” It is amazing how my social interactions opened up once I resolved the tension that was holding back my true face. For this exercise, use a little bit of oil/moisturizer but not so much your fingers glide right off (a small amount of “grip” is good). 💉 The area we are working is where they typically inject Botox for 11 lines. We get tension release without the side effect of Botox paralyzing this area.
