TAOn August 22, 2022, Madalina Cojocari, an 11-year-old girl in Cornelius, North Carolina, was seen getting off her school bus near her home. Neighbors later reported seeing her walk toward her house that afternoon. This is the last confirmed sighting of Madalina outside her home.
Three months later, on November 21, Walmart surveillance cameras captured Madalina shopping with her mother, Diana Cojocari. The footage shows Madalina wearing jeans and a pink jacket, walking normally through the store aisles. Investigators believe this video proves she was alive at least at that time — but what happened afterward is unknown.
According to her mother, Madalina was sent to her bedroom after an argument later that night. Her stepfather claimed he saw her later, but both adults gave conflicting timelines. Madalina stopped attending school, yet no one reported her missing. Her room appeared untouched, with no packed bags and no sign of a struggle.
On December 15, school officials contacted police about her long absence. A welfare check found no trace of Madalina in the home. No cameras ever recorded her leaving, and no witness saw her outside again. Both adults were arrested for failing to report her missing, but her disappearance itself remains unsolved.
The bus stop and the Walmart video are the only moments anyone can prove she existed outside that house.
She came home from school — and vanished from everything else.
What may have been the reason for her disappearance?
