TAIt’s Multiple Births Awareness Week👯♀️ and this years theme is #MultiplesUnfiltered, so let’s take a look at some high level statistics📈 that parents of multiples are living out in Australia, versus Internationally.
Maternity Leave allowance:
🇸🇪Sweden 32 weeks
🇯🇵Japan 58 weeks
🇧🇪Belgium 32 weeks
Paternity Leave allowance:
🇸🇪Sweden 14 weeks
🇯🇵Japan 52 weeks
🇧🇪Belgium 20 weeks
In comparison, currently in 🇦🇺Australia the allowance is 20 weeks combined, which can be split between both parents
(Please note: it was announced today 19.03.2024 that from July 2026, the combined allowance for parental leave in Australia will increase from 20 weeks to 26 weeks)
This time and allowance clearly effects women when returning back to work, looking at the total percent of women employed full time:
🇸🇪Sweden 72%
🇯🇵Japan 53%
🇧🇪Belgium 61.8%
🇦🇺Australia 47.4%
I hope this has highlighted the unfiltered version of being a parent to multiple children, and has given you some insight during Multiple Birth Awareness Week
