In an ideal world dogs wouldn’t have to wear muzzles, but we don’t live in an ideal world and dogs fears and habits don’t go away over night. In the mean time we still need to take them to the vet and not let them bite anyone, go on a walk and not let them eat harmful objects or food, train with assurance no one will get hurt, follow laws, the list goes on. There are a lot of reasons to muzzle train a dog and most dogs are capable of biting in the right situation but there are NOT a lot of reasons to put down those using a muzzle. It’s like putting down someone for using a leash or a seatbelt. It’s safety equipment. Ask questions if you aren’t informed about muzzles but don’t assume the dog is leading a sad life, it’s usually quite the opposite. Our muzzle is from @the.muzzle.movement

I’ve been LOVING seeing how popular the Muzzle theme has been on @honesthounds this month. I’ve seen dogs be muzzled trained who don’t ’need’ it, dogs doing brand new things and their worlds opening up thanks to the muzzle. We don’t really take Atlas to the pub or to social settings because he used to hate it. But I’m struggling to catch-up with all the change so today we headed out on a muzzled trip to the pub to see where he was at. He was such a good boy! He came and sat with us, watched the world go by and let the waiter touch him for some snacks. He found it a little hard to settle which isn’t surprising as we’ve never done this but it was a great start and he made some amazing choices. daisy’s first muzzle walk and it went really well! after getting her desensitised to her anti-scavenge baskerville muzzle but then changing to this one, it meant i had to desensitise her to this one too. this one weighs a little more and is bulkier, so it’s taken her a little longer than i had thought and we aren’t fully there. she does try scratch it off sometimes but only briefly and carries on walking. our trainer said it’s about building resilience in daisy and it’s just about her getting used to it over time. she’s a sensitive dog anyway, so it’s understandable these things may affect her more intensely. she wagged her tail and was pretty comfortable trotting along. we only did a short 5 minute walk as i didn’t want to push it. i am so very proud of her 🥹🫶🏼 #muzzles #muzzle #muzzleddogsarentbaddogs #muzzletraining #muzzlemonday #spaniel #sussexspaniel #dogtraining #spaniels #spanielsofinstagram #spanielsofinsta #spanielsofig #spaniellife #spaniellove

This little guy’s owners have gone above and beyond for him but despite working with trainers and behaviourists, his behaviour is continuing to get worse and it’s become increasingly worrying for them. They’re coming up to our residential stay to work through his human aggression and dog reactivity and we need him to be muzzle trained but due to past experiences at the vet he has a very negative association to the muzzle. This behaviour is very hard for an owner to handle so we are now here to help, to make the muzzle a positive experience and to help him and his humans get back on track to make their world bigger 🌎 Please please muzzle train your dog before it needs it so we don’t end up using it in an emergency. Muzzling a dangerous or questionable dog—updated, closer, better lighting version! Forest was dropped off yesterday from a local rescue. He has significant bite history, but unlike the usual client dogs who come to us, he wasn’t able to be muzzle-conditioned prior to drop-off. So once again, we demo what I think is the best, least invasive (and dangerous) approach which involves the least stress for the dog. It’s just *poof* and the muzzle is suddenly on! This was all done live and in real time with our latest shadow group.
