Mkutano huo ulijikita katika utekelezaji wa Mpango wa Sayansi, Teknolojia na Uvumbuzi barani Afrika (STISA 2034), ukiwakutanisha wadau kutoka mataifa mbalimbali ya Afrika na nje ya bara hilo kwa lengo la kujadili nafasi ya elimu, sayansi, teknolojia na ubunifu katika kuharakisha maendeleo endelevu. Akizungumza katika mkutano huo, Dkt. Kikwete alisisitiza kuwa elimu ndiyo nguzo kuu ya maendeleo ya taifa lolote, akizitaka nchi wanachama wa Umoja wa Afrika kuongeza uwekezaji na kutenga rasilimali za kutosha katika sekta ya elimu. Alieleza kuwa uwekezaji huo utafungua milango ya matumizi bora ya sayansi na teknolojia ya kisasa, jambo litakaloongeza kasi ya uvumbuzi na kuchochea maendeleo ya kiuchumi na kijamii katika nchi moja moja na bara la Afrika kwa ujumla. “Elimu huwapa watu maarifa na ujuzi wa kushughulikia mahitaji na changamoto za kimaendeleo za Taifa na jamii kwa ujumla. Nchi zilizoendelea zaidi zimewekeza kwa kiwango kikubwa katika elimu, sayansi na teknolojia,” alisema Dkt. Kikwete.
