This one’s for you, large breed dog owner’s: one surgery that could save your pup’s life! Dr. Bradshaw walks you through a spay paired with a prophylactic gastropexy. A gastropexy is a preventive surgery that tacks the stomach to the body wall to help prevent gastric dilatation volvulus (GDV) — also known as bloat — a sudden, life-threatening condition where the stomach fills with gas and can twist on itself, cutting off blood supply to many major organs. We commonly recommend this procedure for large and giant breed dogs, especially deep-chested breeds like Great Danes, German Shepherds, Standard Poodles, and other high-risk pups. Performing it at the time of a spay (or neuter) means one anesthesia event and long-term protection against a devastating emergency. #vetmed #veterinarysurgery #memphisvet #gastropexy

IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) is something we see regularly in clinic - especially in breeds like Dachshunds, French Bulldogs, Cavoodles. These scans aren’t necessary for me to treat my patients, but they help owners understand exactly where the disc is affecting the spinal cord and why a dog may experience pain, weakness, or changes in mobility. This information guides how we best support each dog’s recovery and comfort. Every dog is different, and care should always be individualised. This video is for education only and not a diagnosis. Understanding the spine helps us support our furry kid better!

Bloat in dogs is fast, dangerous, and often deadly – yet most dog parents don’t see it coming. Here, Dr. Bob Goldstein, veterinarian and co-founder of Earth Animal, breaks down what every dog parent needs to know. When it comes to GDV cause and prevention, we always recommend discussing GDV prevention with your family veterinarian, as he or she is most familiar with your dog, their diet, their breed and susceptibility to bloat 💚 Watch now to protect your pup 🎥 🐾

This is the only case like this I’ve seen, though I’ve heard of 2 other people diagnosing it in dogs in the last year. It’s an uncommon complication of megaesophagus. I suspect the treatment involves gastropexy, but given how severely ill this patient was I worry he wouldn’t have survived to surgery.

I’ve had so many battles with vets over the years with Red. So many bad experiences, poor care, rude staff, poor advice, judgmental comments. The last 2 vets and vet nurse that have seen Red have been the complete opposite. And the difference it makes is remarkable for 1) a powerful dog who hates being at the vets and 2) when you’re dealing with something serious. The vet who gave the diagnosis to Red was professional, kind, not at all judgemental, and he listened. He didn’t care what equipment I used on the dog, or if he did, he didn’t make that my problem. He, and the others I mentioned all listened when I explained how I wanted to help my dog through his consultations. They respected my dog, his space and my requests. Just as I respected that they should not have to show up to work and have a muzzle fight with my dog on a Monday morning. They made suggestions as to how we could best make this experience as calm as possible for Red. The injection he’s getting in this video is the sedative he had so they could take the CT scans. It hurts, and it has to go in slowly. Just because your dog demonstrates levels of aggression, shouldn’t affect the importance or validity of their need for healthcare. I’ve been made to feel so often that he doesn’t deserve top quality treatment because he doesn’t respond well to vets. And I call bullshit. Red is booked in for his euthanasia, and it is booked with the same practice and vet as described above. The compassion and professionalism they demonstrated makes me feel safe that he will be truly cared for whilst we are in the worst room imaginable. I couldn’t bear it if I felt like the people standing beside me were anything other than kind and supportive. And if your vet doesn’t listen or is at all weird about your dog? I can’t emphasise this enough: change vets. And keep changing vets until you find the best.

Noah’s Ark Vets Kent 01622 291510 Entropion is very common in British Bulldogs because of: • Heavy facial folds • Large palpebral fissure with lax eyelids • Medial canthal tightness • Excess skin pushing lids inward The result is lashes/skin rubbing the cornea, causing: • Squinting (blepharospasm) • Epiphora/discharge • Corneal ulcers • Pigmentary keratitis • Chronic pain In brachycephalics like bulldogs, medical treatment alone rarely fixes it — surgery is usually definitive. ⸻ When to operate Immediate surgery if: • Corneal ulceration • Persistent pain • Moderate–severe rolling • Pigment forming already

Does your dog gag, retch, or cough after eating or drinking? An elongated soft palate doesn’t always show up as loud snoring or the classic “reverse sneeze.” In some dogs, the signs are subtle — like heavier panting after exercise, noisy breathing when excited, or tiring more easily than expected. We often associate this condition with brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds such as French Bulldogs, Pugs, Cavaliers, and Mastiffs, but an elongated soft palate can occur in any breed — including Labradors, Golden Retrievers, and Border Collies. When the soft palate is too long, excess tissue sits near the airway and can partially block airflow. This not only makes breathing harder, but can also interfere with how dogs cool themselves — because dogs rely on breathing (panting) to regulate body temperature. By surgically removing this excess tissue we are able to open up the airway and improve these symptoms! If your dog shows ongoing breathing noise, gagging, or exercise intolerance, an airway assessment is worth discussing! At Good Boy Vets we include a complimentary airway assessment for all patients already undergoing an anaesthetic for other procedures.

💙🐾 This brave pup underwent a double enucleation—losing both eyes due to severe, painful disease. But here’s the amazing thing about dogs… they don’t dwell on what they’ve lost. They adapt. In just a few days, this sweet soul will begin to map out his surroundings, use their other senses, and start living a full, happy life again—tail wags, cuddles, and all. 🐶✨ We can learn something from them everyday. #blind #pet #veterinarian
