An Olympic medalist has confessed to cheating on his girlfriend on live television just moments after his big win.
Norwegian biathlete Sturla Holm Lægreid took home the bronze medal on Tuesday, Febuary 9, in the Men’s 20km Individual race in the Winter Olympics in Italy.
Despite his triumph, the sportsman admitted to being unfaithful to his girlfriend of six months during a TV interview.
Speaking to Norwegian broadcaster NRK, Lægreid confessed: ‘There’s someone I wanted to share this with who might not be watching today.
‘Six months ago, I met the love of my life and the most beautiful and kindest person in the world. And three months ago I made my biggest mistake and cheated on her,’ the 28-year-old lamented.
Lægreid went on to say that it had been ‘the worst week of my life,’ before tearfully declaring: ‘I had a gold medal in my life...I only have eyes for her. I don’t know what I want to achieve by saying this, but sports have been in a different line in recent days. So I wish I could share it with her.’
The Olympian went on to say that he wanted to be a ‘good role model’, but that ‘I have to admit when I make mistakes.
‘You have to admit when you do something you can’t stand for, and hurt someone you love so much.’
Lægreid could be seen crying on camera as he made his shocking confession.
The admission comes after he won his first-ever Olympic bronze in a nerve-jangling men’s 20km individual biathlon race at the Antholz-Anterselva Biathlon Arena on Tuesday.

Dutch speed skater Jutta Leerdam captured the gold medal in the women’s 1000 m at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, stopping the clock in 1:12.31 — a new Olympic record in the event. 
Leerdam’s performance came in a Dutch one-two finish, with teammate Femke Kok taking silver after briefly holding the record earlier in the session, and Japan’s Miho Takagi earning bronze. 
The 27-year-old, who previously took silver in the same event at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, combined fast opening splits with controlled pacing to peak at the right moment in her second Olympic Games. 
Her victory also extended the Netherlands’ speed skating legacy and marked the first Olympic gold of Leerdam’s career in her signature long-track sprint distance.

MAWinning your first individual Olympic medal is a moment worth celebrating. It's a colossal achievement beyond most people's wildest dreams. It is not, however, an opportunity to confess to cheating on someone and attempt to win them back in front of the entire world.
On Tuesday, Sturla Holm Lægreid won his first individual Olympic medal in the 20-kilometre individual biathlon in the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina.
Shortly after winning, Lægreid gave an interview to Norwegian broadcaster NRK, divulging that he had been unfaithful to his now ex-girlfriend and that he had told her one week ago.
Perhaps Lægreid thought this would come off as a romantic gesture to grovel for forgiveness at the expense of his own reputation.
"This is emotional manipulation packaged as a grand gesture," reads one comment on the BBC Sport Instagram Reel of Lægreid's follow-up interview. "The happy end is: she won't forgive him!" declares one comment on the same post, which received over 15K likes. "If guilt-tripping were Olympic, he'd win gold," writes another commenter.
