ST🔇 Soundproof CNC Enclosure 🔇
Ace Ventura would be proud of how soundproof the enclosure for our @onefinitycnc is!
Our workshop is in very close proximity to multiple residential units (one beside, one above, and a neighbouring property about 10ft away). Having a soundproof CNC enclosure was a non-negotiable to keep everyone happy.
The key to a great soundproof CNC enclosure is using a combination of absorbitive materials and materials with high density/mass to block out various sound frequencies. The more dense the material, the harder it is for the high pitch sounds from the router to escape. We used three layers of 5/8” Type X drywall on all sides of the enclosure to add mass to the enclosure.
The walls of the enclosure use a decoupled double-wall system to prevent vibrations from the CNC transferring into the workshop. We also used a special acoustic caulk between layers of drywall to absorb vibrations from the CNC.
The walls are filled with mineral wool insulation to absorb the lower sound frequencies.
There is a sealed polythene air barrier on the inside face of the enclosure and sound seals on all doors to prevent airborne sound from escaping.
When the doors are sealed, the sound enclosure reduces the decibel levels coming from the CNC from 90dB (dangerous for hearing), to a pleasant 60dB (standard conversational levels).
This enclosure definitely took some time and money to get right, but our neighbours and our eardrums will thank us in the long run! 👂🏻
Bonus: this keeps all of the dust from the CNC enclosed too, which means less shop cleanup!
Our next update to improve our setup will be to upgrade the Makita router on our @onefinitycnc to an air-cooled spindle from @redlinecnc . Then we’ll barely hear a thing when it’s closed!

UNMarch Madness Bracket 3.0
Returning for its third year in a row is my bracket build. Each of the last two years I’ve laser engraved on whiteboard and added different features, but this year I wanted to step up even more.
I decided I wanted to make the main backer look like a natural basketball court. Through some laser engraving and cutting work on the @thunderlaserusa and carving pockets on the @onefinitycnc, I was able to bring to life my vision.
This is by far my best bracket build to date. Now how am I going to top it next year?
