OT𝗬’𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹.
As soon as we start getting all that OT knowledge, we just can’t unlearn it.
Pretty soon everything in lyfe is seen through an OT lens.
You’re at a restaurant and you’re observing how your friend holds a pen while signing the bill.
You’re at a park and you can help but watch all the kids and assess their play skills.
You visit your parents and pretty soon you start identifying fall hazards in their home.
Raise your hand if you’ve done any of these cause ya girl over here definitely has. I literally can’t turn my OT brain off these days.
And now with my little one at home and being an early intervention OT, the OT brain is in full effect even more.
I made mention of this in a DM this morning and then was asked if that was a bad thing.
Initially I was like, “of course not” because being an OT is awesome and the knowledge we have is amazing. But then I thought about it a little more and realized that maybe sometimes I do wish I could turn it off for a bit.
While having so much knowledge about occupations and the body is great, sometimes I wish that I could just enjoy being a mom. Sometimes I wish I wasn’t constantly thinking about development or which way my baby is turning her head or how to incorporate language into the activity we are doing.
Sometimes I wish I could turn that OT brain off.
Our OT brains are definitely a blessing and curse… but in all transparency, I wouldn’t have it any other way!
What do you think? Can you ever turn your OT brain off? Do you think it’s a good or bad thing? Sound off in the comments.
