THPascal’s Law ✍️
It is straightforward. When you apply pressure to a liquid trapped in a closed container, that pressure spreads evenly in all directions throughout the liquid and the container walls. Picture a U-shaped tube filled with oil. If you gently press down with a small force on a small piston on one side, the liquid cannot be compressed. Thus, that same pressure quickly reaches the other side and pushes up on a larger piston with a much greater force. This means that a small push on a small area can lead to a large push on a larger area. This principle is why hydraulic systems in car brakes, jacks, and large machines can lift heavy loads easily with just a light touch. The liquid transfers the pressure without losing any of it.
