Picture a U-shaped tube filled with oil. If you gently press down with a small force on a small piston on one side, the liquid cannot be compressed. Thus, that same pressure quickly reaches the other side and pushes up on a larger piston with a much greater force. This means that a small push on a small area can lead to a large push on a larger area. This principle is why hydraulic systems in car brakes, jacks, and large machines can lift heavy loads easily with just a light touch. Dengan kata lain, tekanan yang diberikan pada suatu titik dalam fluida tertutup akan diteruskan ke seluruh bagian fluida tanpa mengalami penurunan .
