While taking a walk outside, my wife and I spotted this adult male Northern Walkingstick (Diapheromera femorata) clinging to a brick wall. We relocated the insect on a wild rose plant, which is one of the plants that this particular species feeds on. Stick insects are renowned for their incredible stick-like appearance and their ability to go virtually unseen, due to their amazing camouflage! There’s over 3,000+ species of stick insects worldwide. They can be found on every continent except Antarctica. Not all of them are as inconspicuous looking as the one shown in the video. Some species can be quite vibrant in color, sporting blues and reds on their bodies. However, one thing that all stick insects have in common is their diet. These insects are herbivores and feed exclusively on various plant leaves. Due to stick insects needing to take cover to avoid being eaten by predators, they’ll usually reside and live on the very plants that they feed on! *Hand drawn stickers added to my store’s website for purchase via link in bio!
