This saves a lot of time over pulling from a steel bedding box. It’s not for every application, but I’ve seen it work great for those doing all pipe work.

For those unfamiliar with pipework, digging the trench is only the first step. Out west, crews will excavate the trench slightly deeper than needed. They’ll then dump “bedding” material in the bottom, which makes for easier grading than native soil. To ensure compaction, most projects require bedding backfill 1’ over pipe as well, which is happening here.
