ISOne knee blocking vs Traditional. The current debate topic amongst catchers….. which is better statistically or logistically? They both have their pluses and minuses backed by data.
Regardless of right or wrong, it’s important for the athlete to explore the variety of stances and techniques catching has to offer in order to figure out one’s capabilities and limitations. Can’t be good at something if you don’t ever try it.
Dry feels are the best for one to tap into sorting out what moving right and wrong feels like. It allows the athlete to get internal about how they are executing the movement alone before we get the ball involved. Often times when we get the ball immediately involved, athletes tend to lose their technique. Going through the blocking stances- Exploring foot pressure, angles, use of the glove, etc to figure out how to be better execute. Explore, drill it, assess, reassess, reapply till we get somewhere.
1’s and 2’s are a perfect way to get the ball rolling with blocking work. 1 commands the glove to be the lead….2 commands the rest to follow. Building muscle memory and proper habits.
