GAPolycephaly is a rare congenital condition in animals in which an individual is born with more than one head. It occurs most often in reptiles, particularly snakes and turtles, but has also been documented in mammals, birds, and amphibians.
The condition results from incomplete embryonic division during early development. In most cases, the heads share a single body and internal organs, though the degree of separation can vary.
Animals with polycephaly often face serious health challenges, including difficulty coordinating movement, feeding problems, and reduced life expectancy. Survival beyond infancy is uncommon, though a small number have lived for several years under human care.
