THIn January 2013, 17-year-old Kendrick Johnson was found dead inside a rolled-up gym mat at Lowndes High School in Valdosta, Georgia.
Authorities claimed it was a tragic accident — that Kendrick had fallen into the mat while reaching for a shoe and got stuck.
But almost immediately, the details didn’t make sense.
His body was discovered upside down. His face was swollen. Blood had pooled at the top of the mat.
The first autopsy ruled it accidental. His parents didn’t accept it.
They ordered a second, independent autopsy. This time, it showed blunt force trauma to the neck.
Even more shocking — Kendrick’s internal organs were missing, replaced with newspaper.
School surveillance footage had suspicious time gaps.
No one saw Kendrick enter the gym that day. Key footage was gone.
Despite growing public pressure and multiple investigations, no arrests were ever made.
Officials stood by the theory of an accident.
Kendrick’s family believe he was murdered — and that a cover-up followed.
Over a decade later, the truth is still buried.
And Kendrick’s case remains one of the most disturbing unsolved deaths in modern American true crime.
