SCThe Line is a futuristic and highly ambitious urban development project in Saudi Arabia. It is planned as a linear, high-tech smart city stretching approximately 170 kilometers (about 105 miles) across the desert in the Neom region of Tabuk Province. Unlike traditional cities, The Line will have no cars, streets, or carbon emissions. Instead, it is designed to be a vertical city in a narrow mirrored structure roughly 500 meters tall and 200 meters wide, housing up to 9 million residents. All essential daily services (homes, offices, schools, health centers, and shops) are meant to be within a five-minute walk of residents, and high-speed rail will connect the entire length in about 20 minutes. The city will run entirely on renewable energy and use advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence and smart infrastructure to improve living conditions and sustainability. The Line is a central part of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the economy away from oil dependence and attract global investment. It is planned to be completed in multiple phases, with an initial segment targeted for completion around 2030–2034 and full development potentially by 2045, although timelines and scope have faced discussion and reassessment
