💪🏽 For better bicep engagement, remember to curl through the pinky finger! This cue is a great way to ensure that we’re maintaining proper form during the entire repetition. 💡 When curling with dumbbells, it’s easy for our form to get away from us. Palms turn in to make the movement easier. Our elbows begin shifting in place. When these adjustments happen, we shift the emphasis away from the biceps to other parts of the arm. But when we remind ourselves to curl through the pinky, we train ourselves to 1) keep our palms facing upward during the entire repetition and 2) keep our elbows fixed in place so that we move the pinky in a full arc. 🔑 This cue has helped me to get much better bicep activations during my Pull Day workouts AND enabled me to build a much stronger mind-muscle connection with these muscles. Not only do the biceps stay engaged throughout the entire repetition, but they also get a much stronger contraction at the top of the rep. And as we know, that tension—that contraction—is how we challenge the muscle and promote muscular hypertrophy, or growth. 🏋🏽‍♂️ If you’re struggling to curl through the pinky, the consider lowering the weight. Oftentimes, when we correct our form, we also need to lower the weight. Why? Because when we use improper form, we often activate other—stronger—muscles so that we can lift heavier weight. But those muscles do not get recruited when we successfully isolate the target muscle; without that additional support, we need to recalibrate our resistance. 🔥 Let’s grow those biceps!
