A very prolonged death but an amazing sight in the wild Florida Keys.

Conus geographus- the geography cone shell is the most venomous of all cone snail species- responsible for 30/36 of all cone snail related deaths.
It’s important to note the shell is harmless- if found alive the snail inside can shoot a venomous harpoon which paralyses prey (usually small fish, molluscs and marine worms) and some species can potentially be fatal to humans.
Most cone shell species are mild in venom, with a sting described like a bee sting, but the geography cone is highly venomous. Take extreme care when handling this species and never touch it alive- as you can see this shell was empty.

Endemic Vietnam, it is seldom found by local divers in the Central area.
Local people call it the “jumping snail” because of its characteristic way of moving.
The meat is very nice and impressive flavors.

I had actually found a conch I thought was empty maybe ten minutes before this and celebrated so hard before a hermit crab decided to reveal himself… I was devastated and of course put him and the shell back.
The ocean rewarded me with an even BETTER queen conch, sitting face up ready to be found! I just love the pink on the inside. The ocean is so generous when you take care of her 💗🌊🪸🤿🐚🧜🏼♀️✨
