Weighing approximately 12 pounds, these weapons could launch metal-tipped bolts through armor at ranges previously unimaginable. Military strategists quickly recognized the crossbow's revolutionary potential. Soldiers could now engage enemies while remaining safely protected, dramatically reducing battlefield casualties. The weapon's precise engineering allowed for unprecedented accuracy, making traditional shields and armor essentially useless.
