There are two main types of full-wave rectifiers: Center-Tapped Full-Wave Rectifier and Bridge Rectifier. A Bridge Rectifier uses four diodes in a bridge configuration to convert both the positive and negative halves of the AC input into DC. ▶️ During the positive half-cycle of the AC waveform, diodes D1 and D2 are forward-biased, allowing current to flow through the load in the direction indicated. Diodes D3 and D4 are reverse-biased during this half-cycle and do not conduct. ▶️ During the negative half-cycle of the AC waveform, diodes D3 and D4 become forward-biased, allowing current to flow through the load in the same direction as during the positive half-cycle. Diodes D1 and D2 are reverse-biased in this cycle, preventing current from flowing through them. This consistent direction of current through the load results in a continuous DC output, as seen in the rectified waveform. In practical applications, a smoothing capacitor is often added to the output of the rectifier to smooth out the ripples in the DC output, providing a more steady and smooth DC voltage. In simulation of a half-wave rectifier, we have a diode, a power supply that turns on and off 50 times per second (50 Hz), and a resistor. 1. Diode: Imagine the diode as a gate that only lets electricity flow in one direction. It's like a door that opens for electricity to go through in a specific way. 2. Power Supply: The power supply switches on and off quickly. When it's on, it sends electricity through the diode and the resistor. 3. Resistor: The resistor slows down the electricity. It's like a speed bump that makes the electricity take a bit longer to travel. Now, here's how it works: ➡ When the power supply is ON, electricity flows through the diode and the resistor. ➡ But when the power supply is OFF, the diode doesn't allow electricity to pass. Because the power supply switches on and off, you get a pattern where electricity flows only for part of the time. This is why it's called a "half-wave" rectifier. This setup helps turn alternating current (AC) into direct current (DC). In simpler terms, it changes the way electricity flows, making it go in one direction, like the batteries in your toys.
