This is “Yas” the 463-foot, estimated $180 million former Dutch Navy frigate that was refitted into a yacht for Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed al Nahyan, who is an Abu Dhabi royal. Though Sheikh Hamdan’s personal net worth is estimated to be around $1 billion, the al-Nayhan family is worth north of $300B, making it the second richest family in the world outside of the Waltons. (I’m not sure why Elon Musk and Larry Ellison don’t show up in these richest families lists, I assume it’s a technicality.) “Yas” underwent a four-year refit from 2011-2015 to turn her from a military vessel into the glass-domed anomaly you see in this fantastic video. The French designer Jacques Pierrejean was tasked with making her look like a dolphin, which you can kind of see if you squint.
