HAThis is how we upcycled this secondhand ‘barley twist’ bedroom suite for my stepmom & dad’s bedroom. They really loved the bed I repurposed in our home, so I found a similar one for them on Facebook Marketplace and we decided to paint it white, as they wanted a fresh crisp look. The bed was only $250, and the dresser $60. I also thrifted this mirror ($35) separately to match the dresser.
Next, I will be adding some color and dimension to the walls. Wainscoting wall mouldings with a sage green paint colour to add a cosy vibe . They’ve only just recently moved in their house - so this was the first step to their bedroom makeover. We also will be replacing the carpets too.
To achieve this look, we sanded the bed lightly and painted the furniture using a paint sprayer. The paint sprayer saved us lots of time. We used a 3 in 1 primer-sealer- stain blocker and then painted all the bedroom suite. We used two coats of paint for the furniture.
We also painted the drawer knobs from silver to gold using a brass gold paint.

Turning this antique vanity into a pair of solid wood nightstands made me stop and think… Where is the line between repurposed and destroyed?
Here are the simple, real shortcut tricks I use that actually save time and make furniture flipping easier:
✨ Use a heat tool to remove veneer fast
✨ Strip paint quickly without chemicals
✨ Soak legs in acetone + wire brush to remove old finish
✨ Use Bar Keepers Friend to neutralize green tones in wood (poplar)
Nothing fancy. No overthinking. Just practical furniture flipping tricks that work.
