JAOver the weekend, the #Sengkang4 gathered with our residents to officially launch the #Anchorvale Butterfly Sanctuary. Bored with the usual ribbon-cutting ritual, we opted instead to brandish some mean-looking waterguns, and mark the new beginning with the release of bubbles.
The sanctuary—and neighboring urban farm—is the second of our flagship projects promised under our #SengkangGRC 5-Year Plan, following the #Rivervale Dog Run launched last July. What was really important to me, as an educator, is that the space isn’t just a facility; it is also a living classroom that invites learning, reflection, and a deeper appreciation of the biodiversity that we live with.
Initiatives like this are, of course, the result of many hands and hearts. Put thanks go out to the staff at Sengkang Town Council who ushered a dream to realization, as well as a team of volunteers whose expertise and dedication allowed us to produce the supplementary learning materials that are tailored to preschool and primary audiences (for now; we’re working on a lower-secondary version).
The sanctuary is now open for self-guided visits, at no charge:
📍 336 Anchorvale Crescent (via the MSCP 334 linkbridge at level 3)
🕘 9am – 12pm
🚫 Closed Mon, Fri & Public Holidays (we’re reserving Mon & Fri for school visits)
We hope you’ll find time to visit, whether to learn something new, or simply to enjoy a quiet moment amidst nature. If you’re a teacher at an area school and would like to schedule a visit, please get in touch with the town council (tel: 6590 9700 or email: enquiry@sktc.sg). If you’re a parent, do share this opportunity with your kid’s schools, too! To read or download educational resources, hit up this link: https://linktr.ee/AVbutterflysanctuary
