Those are rivets, and a large aircraft can use more than 1.3 million of them to hold the structure together. So why do aircraft use so many rivets instead of welding the structure? Let’s break it down. 🧠 What Rivets Do Rivets are permanent mechanical fasteners that connect aircraft structures such as: • Fuselage skin panels • Wing structures • Internal frames and stringers • Control surfaces They distribute loads across the aircraft’s structure, keeping it strong and lightweight. ⚙️ Why Aircraft Are Not Welded Aircraft structures are usually made from aluminum alloys or advanced composites.
