SCWhat if we could undo death?
In 1934, biologist Robert Cornish proved it was possible—but the cost was terrifying.
The Cornish Resurrection Experiments:
The Method: Cornish used a "teeter-totter" tilting table to force blood through dead veins while injecting stimulants.
The Success: He successfully brought two dogs, Lazarus Four and Five, back to life after they had been dead for ten minutes.
The Catch: The animals were blind, brain-damaged, and lived as "ghosts" of their former selves.
The Ban: The University of California was so horrified by the results that they permanently banned his research.
The Human Trial: Cornish later asked for a death row inmate to test his theory on humans, but the State of California stepped in to stop him, fearing he would create a legal paradox.
Some lines, once crossed, can never be uncrossed.
