Rowing is HARD! Spending all that time focusing on things like stroke rate and % effort on the rowing machine can be mentally and physically exhausting. So here’s one to keep it simple. You gotta stay on that stroke rate the whole time, but you’ll find your % of effort/stroke should change as the time decreases. The workout: For Meters - 10 min on 2 min rest 8 min on 2 min rest 6 min on 2 min rest 4 min on 2 min rest 2 min on Stroke Rate 22 the entire time. Rest period can be complete stop if you like but I prefer active rest. 75% effort for each time window. If you wanna play, drop your total meters into the comments. #rowingworkout #rowingwod #rowingworkouts #rowingmachineworkout #rowingmachine

1 Minute on 1 Minute off concept… This workout might look simple on paper but don’t underestimate it. These kinds of interval workouts are often overlooked because people tend to row at a steady, moderate pace and wonder why it doesn’t feel effective. Here’s the key: You have to earn your rest. That means pushing yourself hard during the minute work intervals finding a pace that challenges you and forces you to recover during the rest. When done right, this is an incredibly efficient and effective way to build power and endurance. Whether you’re training for performance or looking to mix up your conditioning, try giving this format the effort it deserves and you’ll see why it works. 15 Rounds •1 Minute Row (hard effort) •1 Minute Rest 💥 Go hard. Recover. Repeat. #intervaltraining #intervals #rowing #hyrox #gym #fitness #skierg #rowerg #row #fitnesstips

WHY IS ROWING SO GOOD FOR YOU? There are loads of reasons, but here are a few… ⇒ Rowing uses the whole body. In the rowing stroke we use everything from the toes to the brain! It’s a FULL BODY EXERCISE! ⇒ Kind on the joints. The majority of your weight is supported so there’s very little impact on the usual joint stress points. This means from rowing is a good thing to do at any age! If you have healthy joints, row to keep them healthy, if you have tired joints, you can still row! ⇒ Aerobic & Cardiovascular fitness. Raising the heart rate, getting the blood flowing & the lungs working is all part of rowing. Row well & you have absolute control over your fitness gains. There is endless scope to how you exercise in rowing, it’s a whole fitness world that needs exploring! ⇒ Build & Tone muscle. Rowing is a strength building exercise, where every stroke is a resistance exercise. Through repeated strokes, muscle toning & strength building comes with the territory! ⇒ Weight loss. Rowing has the potential of high calorie burnin rate. Remember YOU are in control of what you get out of yourself when rowing. You’re in control of the intensity, effort levels, resistance & speed. Create the workouts you need! ⇒ Stress reduction. Rowing involves the brain as well as the body. When you’re rowing you’re forced to break away from worry, stress, life! It’s your time, for yourself - the mental benefits are vast. ⇒ Flexibility & balance. Through the range of movement & motions of the stroke, rowing requires both flexibility, coordination & balance. Changing anything is a challenge & stresses the body & mind (in a good way!). ⇒ Time Efficient Because we use the whole body in rowing, the muscles, lungs & cardiovascular system are all used in a way that is really quite rare. In a very short time we can get a huge amount done. You don’t need to spend the same time rowing as you might jogging, cycling, swimming or pretty much anything else, Rowing is quite unique! For these reasons & more I started Mind Body Row - I want to help people realise this & get the most out of their rowing! Any questions? Just ask! 👇

These are two common rowing mistakes… Starting at the catch with a bent arm blows up your biceps. It may “feel” like you get a lot of torque from the initial drive but if you do the recovery correctly you should be able to time it right to get that same power with straight arms. Leaning the shoulder behind the hips in the drive may “feel” like you are really pushing with your legs. But it’s the same thing as trying to deadlift in your toes. You are much more powerful pushing through your full foot. Comment “Technique” below for a form review. This is how pros row. For steady state rowing workouts at low stroke rate, you’re burning useless effort by punching your arms out on the return. It’s using your shoulders, and there is no need for that on the return. For sprints, yes, your hands have to go more “straight in and out”. But for long rows? Try this instead: ✅ Relax your arms down and out. No shoulder tension, keeping the handle low to the thighs ✅ As soon as the handle passes your knees, bend them, and slowly ✨ trickle ✨ your hands upwards to the catch. Watch any pro row and that’s what they do. And you should too! Coach Austin 🤘 . . . #row #rower #rowing #rowingform #rowingmachine

The most painful workouts I’ve ever done on the erg 💠 🔥 1. Hour of power Particularly if you don’t pace it well. You’ll be 15 minutes in with 45 minutes left in absolute hell. It’s just hold on for dear life for 45 minutes if you do it wrong. On the flipside, a well-paced hour can actually be a lot of fun. 🔥 2. 10K Similar vibes. Something that makes these less painful is rating higher — it takes the load off the legs for the first 60-70% of it and then you can really load the legs for that last 2K. Less lactate buildup early on. 🔥 3. 100K I did this once. Broke it into 25K, 15K, 10K, then 9K down to 1K. Two loaves of bread throughout it and I still felt so empty. Took me 8-9 hours. Watched all the Lord of the Rings. Just was so happy to be done. 🔥 4. 8-10 x 2K If you pace yourself well it can be fun but it’s a LOT at race pace. You get tired pretty quick. 🔥 5. 5 x 5 min This one is actually one of my favorites too. Tricky balance — you have more rest than you think so you feel refreshed for the next one. But 25 minutes at 5K/6K pace is rough. Pain level is high throughout but it’s a lot of fun. What’s your most painful erg workout? Drop it below.
