DAA little restaurant in surfie town Torquay has upended its reason for being. Samesyn 2.0 gives all its profits to food relief charity Feed Me and uses rescued produce in truly delicious, extremely creative dishes. It’s also no-waste: there’s no bin in the restaurant. Samesyn is remarkable, thought provoking and super enjoyable.

EAtwo hatted zero waste restaurant in torquay
a restaurant to add to the list for those road tripping down great ocean rd way! with a fair few restaurants down that side of Victoria but I never knew there was a two hatted gem just in Torquay!
@samesynrestaurant is a restaurant focussing on minimising waste (yes, they have almost zero general waste!) and transforming every part of each ingredient into something delicious.
from snacks to dessert, every dish was truly fascinating to see how they used each ingredient with some dishes leaving a lasting impression 🤭
we did opt for the $99pp menu where we got to pick the dishes we wanted - it came with a selection of snacks, entrees mains and a dessert to finish. I absolutely adored their cheese eclaire — this was SO yum and got my palate going 🥹 we made our way through the entrees and I really liked the raw kangaroo and the salmon dish - the salmon literally fell apart and the kangaroo didn’t taste gamey at all.
Their retired dairy cow is a fan favourite and we can see why - our first time trying too and it was cooked perfectly, still tender to eat and the sauce was delicious!
For dessert I got their passion fruit icecream where every spoonful was a surprise of texture, loved the crunchy bits of walnut in this 🥹
top it all off - this restaurant gives back to its community with all profits straight to charity. as a diner, we get to enjoy good food and also feels great paying it forward too!
would be a shame not to visit this spot - put it on the list 🥰

A meal here feels like being welcomed into a community that values connection, generosity, and purpose, served up with intriguing, beautiful food.

A special Torquay institution that does more than just cook one of the best meals I’ve had in 2025 - Samesyn is a purpose driven restaurant that gives their profit for a cause and have NO general waste bin.
A restaurant can do well when they throw their scraps in the bin, but how does one recycle discards? They are using features of overlooked ingredients that we’d usually throw out, and instead reinvent these into new flavours
🥖 housemade sourdough w cultured butter $10 4.5/5
🧀 cheese onion eclair $10 4/5
🍣 king salmon pastrami on sourdough, cultured cream & roe $13 4/5
🥕 chewy carrots, with lovage & pumpkin glaze $11 3.25/5
🫕 silken macadamia tofu, mussels, beach herbs, seaweed $26 4.75/5
🦘 smoked kangaroo, egg yolk, saltbush $23 4.75/5
🦆 Half dry aged Great Ocean duck, heritage beets, stonefruit, pickled walnut $105 5/5

Kangaroo was rich yet light with an egg yolk that’s actually not runny but in a weird pureed form that gives it texture and umami.
What’s prettier than a restaurant that does not waste food. 30% of food is produced in Australia ends up being in land fill. This restaurant delivers a greater cause through a perfect meal.
