ELBraised Pork Belly & Tea Eggs!!🥢🍚🥓 Hopefully I’ve debunked your assumptions about Asian food being hard to make!
Ingredients:
-2 lbs thick cut pork belly, cut into 1 in. slices
-2 chopped scallions
-4 slices ginger
-3 cloves garlic
-3 pieces rock sugar
-1 tsp Chinese 5 spice
-2 bay leaves
-½ tsp black pepper
-¼ cup shaoxing wine
-1/4 cup soy sauce
-3 tbsps dark soy
-1 tsp oyster sauce
-2 dried chilis
-1 cinnamon stick
-2 star anise
-¼ tsp MSG
-4 black tea bags
-4 boiled eggs
Steps:
1. Boil pork belly for 1 minute with 2 slices of ginger and 1 of the chopped scallions, & strain it.
2. To a pot, add a splash of water and rock sugar. Cook rock sugar until brown and caramelized on low heat.
3. Add in your pork belly, & cover it with the sugar until it’s browned on all sides on medium heat.
4. Season with 1 tsp Chinese 5 spice.
On the side, steep 4 black tea bags in 2 cups of hot water.
5. Deglaze the pot with shaoxing wine. Add in 2 more slices ginger, 3 cloves garlic the remaining scallion, bay leaves, black pepper, soy sauce, dark soy, oyster sauce, dried chilis, cinnamon stick, MSG, & star anise. Stir well. Pour in enough tea to cover the pork, and cover for 20 minutes.
6. After 20 minutes, add in your boiled eggs to soak up the rest of the liquid. 7. Cover for 15 more minutes until the eggs are brown.
8. Serve with rice, and enjoy!
