The free leg stays open: toe turned out, heel toward the ice, foot parallel. The left arm keeps the torso vertical. The TRANSITIONS between positions are very important, so I love basic combos to warm up before moving into more complex positioning. WHY? It instills in your body the right technique when moving from any camel position, sit position, and upright position. ⭐️BASIC COMBO SPIN: 1) Start in a solid camel. Hit aesthetic positioning by locking and stretching your knees, pointing your free leg toe, and arching your back so the posture stays nice and level. 2) As you transition into a sit spin, your posture should move about 90 degrees from horizontal to vertical. Try to keep your back arched as much as you can rather than hunching forward. 3) Use your free leg to whip you around into the sit. If you just drop your leg forward into the sit, you won’t have enough speed and momentum. Focus on keeping your free leg high at 90 degrees as you move it from back-to side-to front, at the same time as you lifting your back into vertical. THEN sit. 4) Your leg was stretched and pointed in the camel, and should stay that way for the sit spin. Focus on a straight free leg, pointed toe, and touch your knees together as you sit in a 90 degree angle. Keep your back as straight as you can. DON’T curl a bent free leg around, and DON’T drop your free leg and bottom lower than your knee, as that’s too low for aesthetic positioning and it’ll be too hard to get up into the next position. 5) Rise into a tall lengthy scratch spin to finish. Focus again on spinning tall and fast, while holding your center. 6) ALWAYS exit with a landing position, because that brings QUALITY to your elements. If you flop out of a spin, it immediately diminishes the package.🤝 Practice holding each position 3-5 rotations before switching. 2026 Magnolia Open. Yesterday was not the result I wanted, but the skate I’m proud of! A few weeks before I lost my scratch spin and days leading to the competition, I was battling a severe case of performance anxiety again. Am just thankful I was able to calm down during practice ice and manage my nerves during performance itself. Finishing last may sting, but it fuels the drive to improve. And in my case, to fully rotate my jumps, hold my edges and complete my spins. 💛⛸️ #adultskater #adultskatersofinstagram #adultsskatetoo #figureskatingjourney #figureskatingprogress

Are you guilty of this? 🤔 If so, I highly encourage you to go back to the basics. Centering and building speed on the Scratch Spin will enhance all of the other spins you are currently struggling with. ⛸✨
