They gave her Benadryl which did NOTHING to calm her rash or itching(i did express this to them) and sent her home and told me to follow up with her doctor. I took her to the doctor and I was told the same thing even though her rash had gotten worse. Her rash kept flaring and getting worse and worse but I just figured she was sensitive to something in the household like I was being told to by the doctors. Fast forward to this Saturday (this was the third time in the doctor for the SAME thing plus the hospital visit) and now we are on week 3 . I expressed my concerns to the doctor, I told them that this really felt like chicken pox to me but they told me that is was not chicken pox or hand foot and mouth disease, that it was just something else that is viral. Come Monday and Elianna is doing terrible so I take her to the hospital and they tell me THE SAME thing and that it doesnt look like chicken pox but decided to admit her since she was not eating at all or using the restroom and she had a fever of 104. Turns out today they FINALLY tell me that she has chicken pox. I know I have been around allot of people, if you have babies and Elianna has been around them please let their doctors know , please monitor your babies very closely for symptoms and if you are pregnant please let your doctor know you have been exposed.

Not only is it's effectiveness in question but the risk of side effects far outweighs the benefits (in my opinion).... an increase in nausea, vomiting, headache, NEUROPSYCHIATRIC EFFECTS (esp with pediatrics), heart arrhythmia (due to QT prolongation), and more. As well, when we look at the approval process, the concerns the FDA had when it was approved, the fact that Roche (pharma company that manufactures and profits off Tamiflu) funded the studies that got it approved.... it's clear safety and efficacy weren't being fully vetted. The WHO recommended stockpiling Tamiflu in the case of a pandemic in 2009 (and has since reversed that decision) ... but the people who wrote the recommendations for the WHO all had financial ties to Roche. No surprise there. If you want Tamiflu to have even the tiniest chance at being helpful, you MUST start taking it before 48 hours of symptom onset. Otherwise, it does NOTHING. This was part of my speech about Tamiflu I used to give patients when I worked in urgent care. It doesn't work well and it has AWFUL side effects. There are better options.
