It’s hard not to feel it… the situation right now is scary. And even if you are safe…the tight chest, clenched jaw, restless legs, random wave of tension for no reason, aren’t just random tics. It’s somatic anxiety (when stress shows up as physical symptoms instead of just racing thoughts) And let’s be honest. You can’t always journal your way out of that. Sometimes your nervous system doesn’t need more thinking. It needs movements that help discharge stored stress, regulate the nervous system, and shift you out of fight-or-flight mode. Save this for the next time and send this to a loved one <3 {somatic anxiety, physical anxiety symptoms, nervous system regulation, anxiety relief techniques, stress release exercises, trauma-informed movement, vagus nerve stimulation, fight or flight response, anxiety in the body, self regulation tools, calming the nervous system, somatic healing, mind body connection, stress management tools, yoga} #somatichealing #anxietyrelief #nervoussystemregulation #mentalhealthtools #mindbodyconnection

Why does somatic shaking work? Your nervous system has built-in mechanisms for processing stress. In the wild, animals instinctively shake after a stressful event to reset their bodies (I've seen my dog do it!). Humans, however, tend to suppress this natural response, causing stress to get stuck in the body. Somatic shaking helps complete the stress cycle and bring the nervous system back to regulation. Here's how it supports your beautiful nervous system: ✅ Releases stored trauma from the body ✅ Activates the parasympathetic nervous system (rest & digest mode) ✅ Reduces anxiety and stress ✅ Helps move out of freeze or shutdown states ✅ Brings awareness back into the body Want more tips and trick to tame your nervous system? WE CAN ONLY FEEL CONNECTED TO THE WORLD if we feel truly connected to ourselves. SomaticMovement patterns of expansion and contraction, especially while rolling on the floor, are incredibly powerful to cultivate a healthy rhythm between coming into ourselves and reaching out into the world. 👉 Try this on an empty surface and play with the feeling of hugging yourself folding into a tiny foetal pose and opening out with confidence and trust like a big starfish, and notice your stress release and harmony grow! 👉 Want to work 121 with me and discover the power of Somatic Movement and Yoga Therapy for Anxiety to feel free in your body and mind? Understand somatic exercises for anxiety here 👇🏼 You might be thinking, how could something so simple help calm my anxiety? Because it isn’t about just washing your hands, or going for a walk - it’s about how these exercises are done with intention to create feelings of safety in the physical body. In turn this can break the circuit of anxiety, which normally looks like: noticing sensations of anxiety ➡️ becoming fixated on the uncomfortable sensations ➡️ feeling worried about what the sensations mean ➡️ anxious thoughts about feeling anxious in the future ↩️ and around we go. Rather than distracting our brain from the uncomfortable sensation of anxiety by mindless scrolling, Netflix, food etc, somatic exercises are designed to assist us to relax and regulate the nervous system by tuning in and becoming not only aware of the physical body, but also comfortable with the various sensations we may be feeling. Practising these types of exercises builds our window of tolerance for sensations of anxiety, because we come to realise that even if we feel dizzy, panicky, short of breath and so on, we are in fact, safe. In turn, the body receives cues of safety, which signals to the brain that it can relax on the fight or flight response and reduce the amount of stress hormones like cortisol and adrenaline that it’s pumping out. So if you’d like to feel more comfortable in your body, less fearful of the discomfort and uncertainty that anxiety brings, save this reel and try these exercises in your own time 🧡 Let me know how you go; leave a comment or send me a message 🙏🏼 #anxietyrelief #somaticexercises #somatichealing #anxietytips #anxietysupport

Comment CHILL to be sent my somatic course! Who remembers the days of slamming pre workout and being so proud when you “double scooped” it, too! 🙋🏽‍♀️ Slugging back the pre workout and going to the gym to crush an hour HIIT and feeling proud. And don’t get me wrong, I felt good. I lost weight. Until I did it for years thinking it was right, and my body started showing signs of slowing down! The constant cortisol spike I put my body under, no wonder I experienced health issues, chronic fatigue, thyroid issues and hormones going haywire. It’s funny, today I was doing my somatic breathing and exercises as my “warm up” to my routine and got some funny looks but my body is happier! I’m happier!

Hold your thumb down to pause and read 🌹 Your body may have learned to shut down or ignore anger previously because the behavior attached to it wasn’t safe. This can cause a build up of emotional energy that can lead to extreme reactivity, irritability, etc. So what we can do now is teach the body that the emotion of anger is separate from the behaviors it was previously tied to, and we can express the emotion in a safe and secure way. Expression allows the body to start processing the emotion. Try any of these for up to 20 seconds, gradually building to longer time periods. Step 1: Activate. We can see Activation = Expression of Anger -Tense & Release -Push Against a Wall -Silent Scream Step 2: Ground. This is important for the nervous system’s and body’s recovery after expression. -Acupressure -Touch the earth -Feet or back flat on the ground We go over these techniques and protocols for the various survival states in our upcoming teacher training. Certify as a trauma-informed Somatic Practitioner through @thecorerising. The next round begins soon, September 8.

When we engage in a somatic hack for an emotion like anger, what we are really trying to do is discharge neurotransmitters and hormones like adrenaline and cortisol that course through our body in a sympathetic (fight or flight) nervous system state. Signs that this exercise is working: You may notice tingling through shoulders, arms, and hands You may notice temperature change throughout the body (typically colder) Your chest and shoulders may open Your body may feel lighter You may sigh or have a large exhale You may notice that you are more present in the moment Try this out and let me know what you experienced! We teach you dozens of somatic hacks in our Body First Healing Program. Connect with me through DMs if you are curious about how we help people heal trauma both gently and somatically.
