JAThis is one for the bird nerds. 🪺
They might not be the most eye-catching to look at, but I've always had a soft spot for Grasshopper Warblers.
These are incredibly secretive birds, often only given away by their "reeling" song that goes on and on - sounding a bit like a grasshopper/cricket or an angler's line being cast.
Other than that, they just run around in the grass and scrub like little mice, only flying short distances if they have to.
I have to come clean and say this wasn't a nest I found (I wish). It was found by the God-like powers of the @bbcspringwatch nest finding team, but was unfortunately too far away from our base to be able to put a camera on it for the TV show.
But I couldn't let the opportunity of getting a peak into such a rarely seen nest pass me by, so I put my little camera on the nest, and here's the result...

LOHobnob transferring her (very fat) cub into a new sett this morning! Volume on for "chirping" cub vocalisations. Female badgers sometimes move their cubs between setts above ground before it's time for them to emerge independently. Often, this behaviour is associated with some form of disturbance at the original sett, although Hobnob's pattern over the past seven years has been to move her cubs routinely in the two months prior emergence irrespective of disturbance. Anyway: exciting times! Now we've just got to track down where the other reproductive female is currently living and figure out whether she's had cubs this year too...

STTalking about my tour with the lovely @christinelampard on @lorraine today.
Chatted about the Really Wild Show, Springwatch and the early days of The Wide Awake Club.
Then bumped into @gylesbrandreth who happened to be the first person I ever interviewed on the very 1st prog I presented. The Wide Awake Club, 40 yrs ago. The interview was about a Teddy Bear’s picnic and true to form, Gyles wore a teddy bear jumper.
He was lovely then and he’s lovely now.
BTW I was promoting my tour “NOT JUST A WILD LIFE.”
