LUHere’s a mistake I see students make all the time 👇
They try to cold email into a Spring Week at a big bank. But here’s the truth: Spring Weeks at places like JPMorgan or Goldman aren’t built for cold outreach. They’re run on bureaucracy - online assessments, HireVues, assessment centres. You can’t just skip the process with an email.
Cold emailing does work, but only in the right context. At a small firm - a boutique bank, niche consultancy, or local investment shop - you can send an email, get on a quick call, and if you click, you start working. No portals. No hoops. Just proving you’re capable.
So the real lesson: don’t waste energy trying to bend the system. Focus your cold emails where scale isn’t the barrier. That’s how you build experience early.
