StackOverflow in 2015: “Ask me anything!” StackOverflow in 2024: “I’m just a nostalgic Wikipedia page now.” Developers in 2024: “Why ask strangers when ChatGPT listens without judgment... and with code examples?” RIP endless copy-pasting from top-voted answers. As someone who used Stack Overflow a lot, this was obvious. They didn’t capitalize on the rare questions & solutions they had. Most LLMs were likely trained by scraping their public data. The mods were often harsh on repeat questions. You don’t face this with ChatGPT or Gemini. Graph from this site: https://data.stackexchange.com/stackoverflow/query/1926661#graph

Comment “STACK” if you want the traffic charts + full data sources. ⠀ Stack Overflow just hit its lowest monthly question count since 2008—18 years of growth wiped out in the AI era. ⠀ Reddit, Discord, and now tools like ChatGPT, Cursor, and Copilot replaced “search and copy” with instant, custom answers—ironically trained on Stack Overflow itself. ⠀ #ai #programming #stackoverflow #developers #techhistory

Is it really time to move on from Stack Overflow? 😢 For years, it was the first stop whenever code broke, errors appeared, or logic just didn’t make sense. Developers relied on community answers, tags, and shared experience to survive bugs across every language and framework. But now the workflow is changing. AI tools like ChatGPT, DeepSeek, Grok, and Claude have become the new go-to helpers — offering instant explanations, debugging help, and complete solutions without scrolling through endless threads. No waiting. No outdated answers. Just direct, context-aware support in seconds. Stack Overflow built the foundation. AI is changing how we build on it. Is this the end of an era… or just the start of a new one? 👀💻 . . . . . #stackoverflow #developerlife #programmerlife #codingcommunity #chatgpt #deepseek #claudeai #grok #aiincoding #programminglife #techreels #codingmemes #techhumor #reelsviral #fyp #explorepage

Stack Overflow didn’t just “decline”… it returned to Day One numbers — literally. 📉 In 2008, the platform had 3,749 questions in its first month. 📉 In December 2025, it had 3,862 — basically the exact same. That’s not a slowdown. That’s a full reset. And ThePrimeagen is brutally honest about why: 👉 Developers were leaving long before AI existed 👉 The COVID spike was short-lived 👉 The culture became toxic, unwelcoming, and power-driven 👉 Asking a question started to feel like a punishment, not a learning moment AI didn’t kill Stack Overflow. Developers stopped loving it years earlier. And now? We learn faster, debug instantly, and prototype with AI — not wait hours hoping someone answers. The internet changed. Developers changed. But Stack Overflow didn’t. So here’s the real question… 💬 Do YOU still use Stack Overflow, or has AI fully replaced it for you? Drop your experience below 👇 I’m reading every comment. --- FOLLOW @activeprogrammer to learn something new every day! #aiin2025 #developerslife #softwareengineering #techtrends #aicommunity 🎥🗣: @theprimeagen

Is it really time to say goodbye to @thestackoverflow? 😢 Stack Overflow is a community-driven question-and-answer platform where developers and programmers post technical questions and receive answers from other users. It's organized by tags and reputation points, allowing experienced users to gain credibility by contributing helpful responses. People typically use Stack Overflow by searching for error messages, asking specific questions about code bugs or implementation details, and browsing existing threads for solutions. It has long served as a go-to resource for solving coding problems, learning best practices, and engaging in peer-to-peer knowledge sharing across nearly every programming language and framework. However, it might be time to say goodbye to Stack Overflow as AI tools like ChatGPT, Deepseek, Grok, and Claude become developers' first line of support. These tools provide instant, context-aware explanations, code generation, and debugging assistance without the need to browse multiple threads or wait for human responses. Instead of piecing together partial solutions from forum posts, developers now get tailored, conversational answers in seconds. As these AI models continue to improve, the need to rely on traditional Q&A platforms is diminishing, making Stack Overflow less central in the daily workflows of many programmers.
