NZMetService has delivered fresh updates on the severe weather, with more rain on its way and expected to filter down south.
A red heavy rain warning remains in place for Northland east of Kaikohe from Doubtless Bay to Whangārei, until 4am tomorrow. Residents can expect a further 100-130mm of rain on top of what has already fallen.
The remainder of Northland is under an orange heavy rain warning until the same time tomorrow, with a high chance of upgrading to red.
Thunderstorms are possible across the region from later this afternoon.
Meanwhile, an orange heavy rain warning is also in place across the Coromandel Peninsula until 6pm tomorrow, with a deluge of up to 250mm possible for the Coromandel Range.
Orange heavy rain warnings are in place across large chunks of the North Island including for the Bay of Plenty west of Whakatāne, Auckland from Whangaparāoa northwards, the Hunua Ranges, Aotea Great Barrier Island and Taranaki Maunga.
