People often think top students are just “naturally gifted.” But that’s not true. I used to be the worst in class, constantly failing and even called “stupid” by those around me.
I desperately wanted to be one of the smart kids, so I researched study techniques, watched tons of YouTube videos, and applied everything I learned.
Soon after, I went from bottom of the class to top, and now I’m studying at NYU—still acing my exams.
Wanna know how I did it?
Here are 3 powerful methods I used to turn everything around:
1. Priming
Priming means briefly exposing yourself to the key concepts or topics in advance, which prepares your brain to recognize and absorb information more effectively during lectures.
- Briefly review the class materials (15 ~ 20 min)
2. Post-class Immediate Review:
Post-class Immediate Review is the practice of quickly reviewing key points right after a class to reinforce learning, strengthen memory retention, and clarify any confusion while the material is still fresh.
- recall as much info as possible without looking at your notes
- fill the gaps
3. Parkinson’s Law:
It states that “Work expands to fill the time available for its completion.” In other words, if you give yourself a week to do a task that can be done in 2 hours, it will still take you the whole week.
- Set tighter, artificial deadlines for better focus and faster results
