ASThe Midnight Gift
The rhythm of a steady drizzle tapped against the windowpane of Aston’s small cottage. It was a quiet, silver-grey evening until a frantic scratching at the back door broke the silence.
When Aston opened it, his sleek black cat, Midnight, slipped inside. But Midnight wasn't alone. Clutched gently in his jaws by the scruff of its neck was a shivering, fluffy ball of white and charcoal spots. It was a snow leopard cub, lost and far from the high peaks.
An Unlikely Bond
Aston was stunned, but Midnight was purposeful. He dropped the cub onto a warm rug by the fireplace and immediately began licking the rainwater off the cub's thick fur. The cub, exhausted and cold, let out a tiny mewl and curled into Midnight’s obsidian side.
From that night on, they were inseparable. Aston named the cub Luka.
As the months turned into years, the physical difference between the two became comical, then majestic:
The Mentor: Midnight remained the "boss," teaching Luka how to stalk through the tall grass and the best spots to nap in the sun.
The Giant: Luka grew into a powerful predator, his tail long and thick, but he never lost his kitten-like affection for his black-furred "big brother."
The Shadow and the Snow
By the time Luka was fully grown, the sight of them in the garden was legendary. A massive, ghostly leopard resting its heavy head on a tiny black cat, while Midnight purred loudly, kneaded Luka’s silver fur with his paws.
They didn't see a predator and a housecat; they saw the two souls who had found warmth together on a drizzly night. To Aston, they were a living reminder that family isn't about looking alike—it's about who stays by your side when the rain starts falling.
