You can begin to introduce teethers at around 3 months old when your baby is grasping and bringing objects to the mouth. Make sure to offer a variety of types, from round and textured ones to some that can be chilled in the freezer. Bonus points if you have any that require use of two hands! Benefits of teethers as you prep to introduce solids include improving oral motor skills, encouraging self-feeding practice, and promoting desensitization to new textures and temperatures. ✅ Dos:
• Massage gums with a clean finger or damp cloth.
• Offer safe teething toys (refrigerated, not frozen).
• Use cold washcloths for soothing.
• Give baby pain relief (like infant acetaminophen) if advised by a doctor.
• Keep drool under control to avoid rashes.
• Watch for illness—mild symptoms are normal, but high fever or diarrhea isn’t.

• Don’t use numbing gels (especially with benzocaine).
• Don’t freeze teething toys solid—too hard on gums.
• Don’t tie toys around the neck—choking hazard.
