Shade and somewhere to sit. Little things that make a 12-hour day enjoyable. So to say the least... we're not on vacation. But it should feel like it. That's kind of our unofficial motto at this point!

34 miles. Moab, Utah. The Red Hot Ultra 55K. My second race of the season. And my body had other plans. Going in, my back was still healing from a ligament strain in my SI joint just weeks ago. I told myself I’d make the call at the first aid station — drop to the 33K if I needed to. But I was feeling okay. Probably the steroid doing its job. So I pushed on. And then an hour later my gut decided to completely empty itself. Not once. Multiple times. Full GI distress. The kind that doesn’t pass. The kind that feels like running with razor blades in your lower bowels. I am not exaggerating. On top of that, my electrolyte packets got condensation in the baggies and became totally unusable. Thank God I had backup salt pills or I would’ve been in serious trouble out there. I finished. But I’m not going to sit here and tell you it was beautiful. And if you know the history of my feet — yeah. Blisters underneath my nail beds and between my toes. Again. It’s one of the reasons people tell me to stop. And maybe I will. But maybe I won’t. Here’s the part that’s messing with my head. My next race is in April. Double the distance. Right now, even thinking about that has crushed my confidence. I’m still in post-race recovery so maybe my mind will bounce back. I’m trusting the process. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t shaken. And then in the last two days, two people told me I’m too old for this. Asked me when my racing will ever end. Too old? Not yet. Done racing? Not yet. Ready to quit? Not yet. Because the moment I start living by someone else’s limits is the moment I stop living mine. They say slow down. I say lace up. That’s exactly why I built Not Yet — a community for anyone in midlife chasing something everyone else thinks is unreasonable. If that’s you, the link is in my bio.
