MUToronto’s last fatal duel took place at the Northwest corner of Bay and Grosvenor, ironically just steps away from a building that houses the Ontario Police Arbitration Commission. Back then though, the site of this deadly duel was a farmers field. Imagine the scene in March 1817, with two men standing back to back holding pistols at dawn. John Ridout, a Student vs Samuel Jarvis, a filthy rich dude. Ridout missed and Jarvis shot him dead with a bullet to the chest. Think about that moment - duelling to the death in a farmers field, in the middle of downtown Toronto.
