When you catch yourself ruminating or wallowing in negativity, immediately stop that train of thought. Clap or say NO to forcefully end that thought loop, and add in positive thoughts by affirming the opposite of what you were just ruminating about. When it’s primed, coordinated, and responsive, your speed, reaction time, and control skyrocket. Too many athletes skip this part and wonder why their gym work doesn’t translate to the field. Athletes think that lifting heavier or grinding harder will make them quicker on game day, but speed starts in the nervous system. When you train your brain and body to react fast, stabilise fast, and move efficiently, everything on the field gets sharper, your reaction time, your decision-making, and your overall performance. Remember, your muscles only do what your nervous system tells them to do.
