When you realize Earth's history is way more terrifying than any horror movie... 😱🌍 Prepare to look at our planet in a new, chilling light! This Reel dives into the truly extreme eras of #EarthHistory, revealing a past far wilder and scarier than fiction: 🌿 #Carboniferous Era: Imagine forests so dense and oxygen levels so high that insects grew to the size of eagles! Giant dragonflies ruled the skies. 🌊 #Silurian Period: Venture into ancient oceans ruled by formidable, human-sized scorpions (Eurypterids) lurking in the murky depths. 🔥 #Cretaceous Era: A period where Earth had no ice! Even the poles were tropical, creating a hot, humid, and very different world. 🏜️ #Triassic Period: Following the greatest extinction, the atmosphere was brutally unstable, with deserts frequently hit by devastating acid rains, and Earth becoming almost completely silent. These aren't movie scenes; they're chapters from our planet's real story. A humbling reminder of Earth's untamed past and its raw, untamed power. Which of these ancient eras do YOU find the most terrifying? The small, prehistoric lizard with a row of hockey-stick feathers running down its back. 🦎✨ Longisquama was a bizarre little reptile that lived in the ancient trees of Asia, sporting massive, colorful scales that look like something out of a sci-fi movie. If you spotted this strange creature perched on a branch in your garden, would you think it was a lizard or some kind of exotic bird? 👇 #longisquama #prehistoric #reptiles #triassic #paleontology #nature #history #wildlife #ancientanimals #creature

The rain that built a world. 🌧️🦖🌋 About 232 million years ago, during the Triassic Period, the sky opened up and didn't close for nearly two million years. This phenomenon is known to scientists as the Carnian Pluvial Event. The Volcanic Trigger: The rain wasn't an accident. Massive volcanic eruptions in the Wrangellia terrane released a staggering amount of greenhouse gases. This caused global temperatures to soar, which increased evaporation from the oceans, leading to a humid, soggy planet that was stuck in a cycle of constant rainfall. The Rise of the Giants: Before this "Great Deluge," dinosaurs were just a minor group of animals. But the 2-million-year rain changed the vegetation of the planet, killing off older species and allowing dinosaurs to diversify and dominate. We literally owe the age of the dinosaurs to a massive, million-year climate shift. It’s a reminder that Earth's climate is a powerful, interconnected system and once it starts raining, it might not stop for a very, very long time. ✨ How would your life change if it rained every single day for the next month? 👇 #universia #geology #dinosaurs #triassic #earthscience #sciencefacts #prehistoric #evolution #climatehistory #natureisamazing #paleontology #volcano

Shonisaurus was one of the largest marine reptiles to ever live. It swam the oceans during the Late Triassic, around 215–205 million years ago, long before dinosaurs ruled the land. Shonisaurus could reach an estimated 15–21 meters (50–69 feet) in length, rivaling modern blue whales in sheer size. Despite its enormous body, it had relatively small teeth, suggesting it mainly fed on soft prey such as squid rather than large animals. Fossils found in Nevada show that Shonisaurus lived in open oceans and likely relied on efficient, energy-saving swimming to survive, proving that giant body sizes evolved in marine reptiles far earlier than most people realize. Imagine a storm that doesn't stop for a week. Now imagine it raining for 2 million years. 🌧️🤯 232 million years ago, the Earth was a dry, red wasteland. But then, massive volcanic eruptions (the Wrangellia Province) spiked global carbon levels, turning the planet into a humid hothouse. This is known as the Carnian Pluvial Event. The skies opened up, turning the supercontinent of Pangea into a lush tropical jungle. This explosion of plant life gave a small, minor group of reptiles the fuel they needed to grow into giants. When the clouds finally cleared... the Age of Dinosaurs had begun. 🦖🌿 Did you know about this "Great Rain"?
