Five of the world’s seven sea turtle species nest on our beaches, making this one of the best places on Earth to witness these ancient mariners in action.
🌊 Best time to visit? July to November — when nesting season is at its peak for olive ridley and green turtles.
📍On the Pacific coast, olive ridleys arrive each months by the thousands at three beaches for the famous arribadas (a once-in-a-lifetime natural spectacle). The most accessible beach: Ostional, Guanacaste.
📍On the Caribbean coast, Tortuguero National Park hosts one of the largest green turtle nesting populations in the world and the longest running scientific monitoring project.
💡 Did you know?
➡️Olive ridleys can be seen year-round on some Pacific beaches, but the best chance for both solitary nesters and arribadas is between July–November.
➡️Loggerheads are rare guests, laying only a handful of nests each year in Tortuguero.
➡️Leatherbacks and hawksbills have become exceedingly rare, but with luck, they may still be spotted on a few remote beaches during their respective nesting seasons.

✅️Only go with a certified guide
✅️Expect to spend a few hours on the beach at night
✅️Use only red lights
✅️No flash photography

This has to be one of the best videos of Odisha. The Rushikulya beach in Ganjam is dotted with lakhs of hatchlings from this years’s Arribada, or mass nesting of🐢.
👉One of the most spectacular shows of nature in Odisha is the nesting of the endangered #oliveridley turtles who travel thousands of kilometers in the sea to assemble at various coasts of the state to lay eggs. This phenomenon called #arribada is a subject of study for many wildlife experts who wonder what makes them descend on the coast at a precise time, with their numbers running to tens of thousands.
This reel is shot at the #rushikulya river mouth, a prominent place for the mass nesting. The beach is in Ganjam district about 1.5 hrs drive away from #bhubaneswar. You could stay either at #Barkul or at #Rambha, both of which places have OTDC (Odisha tourism) Panthanivas. This awesome spectacle of nature happens at many places in Odisha, Gahirmatha in Kendrapada being the largest.
