Thankfully, they were rescued and brought to The Gentle Barn Sanctuary in Tennessee, where everything changed. At the sanctuary, the two brothers were inseparable. For the first time, they felt safe, cared for, and truly happy. But as they grew, Horton began facing serious health problems. Like many pigs raised for food, he gained weight too quickly, and his legs simply couldn’t support his body. After surgery, he was left with no choice but to rest most of the time. That’s when Henry showed what real love looks like. Every single day, Henry made sure Horton had food before he touched his own. He stayed close, checking on him constantly, making sure he was comfortable on soft straw. He even brought him little gifts, flowers and fresh grass, just to brighten his brother’s day. Sadly, Horton passed away in May 2018. But Henry’s love never faded. His loyalty, his gentleness, and those quiet daily acts of devotion remain a beautiful reminder of what true love really means.

The lesson here is as follows: - when you know you aren't ready to perform, take the necessary time and prep to set yourself up to succeed - if you don't have the time to fuel, consider pushing your lift to the next day - don't let ego or program determine what a reasonable increase in weight or test weight in general you will use, select what's reasonable Good planning can make a world of difference! Do you wake up with energy or do you feel like you got hit by a truck? Are you eating enough actual nutrients? Are you eating enough calories to support your body? Is your digestion working? Is your nervous system constantly stressed? If your body feels like it’s in survival mode, cutting calories harder is the worst strategy you can use. A stressed, undernourished, exhausted body does not want to lose weight. It wants to protect itself. When you focus on restoring sleep, improving nutrition, stabilizing energy, and giving your body what it actually needs… your system starts working with you again. Then weight loss becomes a side effect of a body that finally feels safe and supported. Stop trying to bully your body into changing. Start learning how to work with it. Your calorie intake might be higher than you think from the random stuff you snack on but your body isn’t getting enough protein and fiber. I hear women thinking their 1600-1800 calorie is good but when it’s broken down half of it is crap. A 1300-1400 calorie diet of real Whole Foods is literally almost double in quantity because they’re nutrient dense and not calorie dense. Cranberry was underfed and sick, and needed extensive veterinary care and time in a medical foster to blossom into a healthy, happy kitten. The two sisters were adopted together about a month ago. Their adopter reached out to our Adoption Coordinator because Cranberry, although playful and joyful, didn’t seem interested in touch the way her sister was. Our Adoption Coordinator checked in with Cranberry’s foster mom for suggestions of rewards and enticements that Cranberry enjoyed, then did a video chat with Cranberry’s adopter. Yesterday, we received this video of Cranberry snuggled into her person’s lap, soaking up all the touch.
