A lip flip is a quick treatment that uses Botox to add a little height to the upper lip. It’s done by injecting a small amount of Botox into the orbicularis oris muscle, the muscle that circles the mouth. This relaxes the muscle just enough so the top lip flips outward a bit, creating the appearance of more volume without actually adding filler. It’s also great for anyone who experiences their upper lip curl in when they smile and to prevent vertical lip “smokers lines”. The results are very subtle and last anywhere from 1.5-3 months!

ASBecause so many people ask me about this, I felt like it was necessary to make a reel about this and actually explain my experience. I had a lip lift in November 2022 (mine was around $5,000). The goal wasn’t to make my lips dramatically bigger (although that is definitely an added bonus) — it was to shorten the distance between my nose and upper lip so more of my natural lip shows. A longer philtrum can make the face look more masculine and it was just something that I was super self-conscious about.
The biggest fear people have is that it changes your smile. Mine didn’t. I spent a lot of time researching and only chose a surgeon who had done this procedure repeatedly with consistent results. I looked through healed photos, before/afters, and patient reviews until I felt confident, and I think that made all the difference.
I did have some scarring — which is normal. After I was fully healed, I did microneedling over the scar and it helped significantly. You can still see a faint line if I tighten my top lip, but no one else notices unless I literally point it out.
I also want to be transparent: I do have about ½ a syringe of filler in my lips.
For the surgery, you’re only a candidate if your top lip is naturally smaller than your bottom lip. If your lips are already proportionate, a responsible surgeon won’t do it because it would make the top lip look larger than the bottom, and the balance would look off.
I am so insanely happy with my results — truly one of the best things I’ve done for myself confidence-wise. If anyone has questions, I’m always happy to answer them.👇🏻

Not everyone is the right candidate for lip filler with hyaluronic acid. One important factor we always assess is the distance between the nose and the upper lip. If this space is too long, adding volume with filler can look unnatural and disproportionate. In those cases, other treatments may create a more balanced result. For example, a lip flip can help subtly roll the upper lip outward and improve the overall look without adding extra volume. A good result always starts with choosing the right treatment, not just adding more filler.

1. Press your tongue behind your two front teeth. This will keep your smile from going too wide and make it look more natural.
2. Lower your bottom jaw to allow room between your teeth. This will relieve tension.
