IMYour window box is probably too small! If you want a lush planting that looks good all summer, you need more soil, more room, more plants and here’s how I got that.
I ordered a custom window box from @hooksandlattice to add three inches of width (front to back) so I can get more plants in and still have plenty of room for them to grow in. This is my second Hooks and Lattice window box and I had the first one for nine years and, since it’s made from PVC, it was still in perfect condition after all that time and I was able to repurpose it. You can use promo code ImpatientGardener for 20% off at @hooksandlattice until June 18, 2025 (shutters excluded.)
Tips: Use a really good container mix in your window box and time release fertilizer, then use a water soluble fertilizer throughout the summer as well. Hooks and Lattice sells self-watering inserts for their window boxes, but I use drip irrigation in this one.
Here are all the plants in the box:
2 Fiona Sunrise Jasmine
3 Design-a-Line Cordyline
2 Mini Me Chartreuse Coleus
3 Compact Light Coral Sunpatiens
2 Pink Grapefruit Superbells
4 White Stardiva Scaevola
4 Secretia Purple Heart
4 Guacamole Plectranthus
3 Wire vines
